Despite preparation being a prerequisite to a successful endeavor, sometimes eagerness can be a make or break factor. And this rings true in the case of Abdulaziz Al-Rashed, a student of the Gulf University of Science and Technology (GUST).
Abdulaziz recently found himself at the starting line of a Duathlon. “My friend Yousef Al Shatti and me were there for another event altogether when we found out about the Sahel Hasheesh Duathlon Championship and decided we should give it a shot.”
Abdulaziz then got in touch with the organizers of the competition and was able to get himself registered an hour before the start. Since this was a last minute effort on Abdulaziz’s part, he was still lacking a bike that would be essential in participating in the event. Once again, eagerness to take part led him to be resourceful and ask around for anyone who had a spare bike he could use. And as luck would have it, he was able to find a willing donor. With a bike hand and true grit in his heart he was ready to go and give the competition his all.
Abdulaziz finished in 2nd place in the Duathlon. However, what is the most surprising facts about this story aside from Abdulaziz’s last minute efforts landing him in a position of success is the fact that he had just undergone surgery two months prior. This race was not just a test of his will and determination but also acted as a confidence booster that is going to propel him onto future endeavors regardless of the circumstances.
